Field Museum

The Field Museum is located at 1400 Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, IL, 60605. Currently general admission is $12 for adults, $7 for Children ages 4 - 11, $7 Students with ID. The Field Museum of Natural History is on the shores of Lake Michigan and in the area known as Museum Campus. The museum was named after the famous Marshall field the owner of the iconic Marshall Field's Department Store. Marshall Field believed strongly in education and endowed much of his money to the Field Museum in Chicago. Currently the most famous exhibit at the Field Museum is Sue the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Sue's skeleton is the best preserved and most complete Tyrannosaurus ever discovered. The exhibit was unveiled in 2000. Sue is thirteen feet tall and her head was too heavy to be mounted on her body. Therefore, only a replica is attached to her body. You can see the full head on the second floor balcony. Sue was discovered by her namesake, Sue Hendrickson, a fossil hunter in the Black Hills Institute at a dig site near Faith, South Dakota in 2000.
The Field Museum is constantly changing out their Exhibits and it is always a treat to see what new and exciting exhibits are available. The temporary exhibits always last at least 6 months and with the affordable rates for admission, this is a good stop if you live in the Chicago area. There is also a lot to do and see when in the area of the Field Museum. The Navy Pier is close by and good to visit while in the area.
